This holiday season is gradually coming to an end and 2014 becoming a history. And despite all the colors and the beauty attached to the month of December, I worked throughout the holiday season!!
Hence Christmas, the most wonderful time of the year, was simply another day for me. I returned from my long working hours by mid-afternoon and spent the rest of the afternoon sleeping, no special favorite meal, and before yo know it, the day was over.
Actually, this experience was not peculiar to this year’s Christmas. The past few Christmases, I have had similar experiences. Birthdays and other ‘special’ days, Easter, Ascension, first days, first Sundays, last Sundays, New Moons etcetera are not immune to this “just-another-day” syndrome.
Now I love holidays and special days, and I really look forward to being able to celebrate my special days in style. But seriously, even God is not bound by special days. Or is He?
How do I come to that conclusion?
First of all, we need to remember that God was the first Person to ever declare a “Special Day”. He rested on the seventh day. He went further to sanctify the 7th day and made it special. Then again He declared it as a Law in the 10 commandments: Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it Holy.
Over the centuries and millenia, special days emerge everyday. And in today, every single day of our calendar has a special day attached to it. And you know what they say, that by the time everybody is special, it can only mean that nobody is. The same applies to days.
But I also notice that even nature does not recognize special rays. Otherwise, how come January does not mark the beginning of a new season? Like, let’s say 1st January is the beginning of Spring?? How come all special holy days are not the beginnings or the end of say Summer??? How come the moon revolve around the earth for approximately 28 days rather than a round figure like 25 or 30 days? And seriously, how come the Earth revolves round the Sun for 365-and-a-quarter days. I mean the human race was so confused that we had to save those “quarter” days for 4 good years so they can add up to make a Leap Year!! In fact when God was creating the Universe, he made them Night-and-Day rather than our conventional Day and Night; as in He started from the night and ended with the day. Why is that??
The answer is simple: Imperfection is not always wrong. Many times, imperfection is beautiful.
I will conclude this piece, and in fact this year 2014 with this verse from the scripture as seen in the different versions of the Bible. Romans 14:5
GOD’S WORD® Translation
One person decides that one day is holier than another. Another person decides that all days are the same. Every person must make his own decision.
Holman Christian Standard Bible
One person considers one day to be above another day. Someone else considers every day to be the same. Each one must be fully convinced in his own mind.
New Living Translation
In the same way, some think one day is more holy than another day, while others think every day is alike. You should each be fully convinced that whichever day you choose is acceptable.
Have a Blessed and Prosperous 2015
